Shift
boot removal and installation.
These
directions may not be 100% accurate for your car, but should be very close. The
important thing to remember is that you should be careful to note all the steps
involved in removing your boot. Then simply reverse the steps to reinstall.
Remove
the knob at the top of the shifter by turning it counter clockwise.
Pull
the old boot upwards to disengage the frame from the console. You may have to
press in on the outer edges to release any tabs that hold the boot frame into
the console. Check to be certain there are no clips or screws holding the frame
in place. If there are remove them.
Continue
pulling the boot up over the top of the shifter shaft.
Make
note of the boot position on the shifter before removing it.
Cut
the zip tie that holds the old boot in place on the shifter.
Remove
the old boot from the frame that holds it to the console. If the boot is glued
to the frame you must remove the old boot and then glue the new boot to the
frame. Use a glue that is rated for holding leather to metal.
You can find such glue in auto stores and most major department stores
auto section.
To
replace the new boot simply reverse the above procedure.
Put
the new boot on the frame.
Push
the boot down through the frame so it is inside out and place it over the shift
knob.
Pull
it down to the same place that you marked as being the original position.
Place
the zip tie around the leather boot and pull tight to lock it in place.
Push
the boot and frame down over the shifter and push the frame back into the
console.
This
will complete the removal and installation.
